This course is designed to ensure committee members understand their role within the Internal Responsibility System and how to actively contribute to improving workplace health and safety.
Participants learn how safety committees are structured, what duties they are legally required to perform, and how to carry out inspections, incident investigations, and recommendations in a way that is practical, defensible, and effective. Training aligns with the BC OHS Regulation and the Workers Compensation Act, and provides committee members with the tools needed to function confidently and competently. Certification is valid for three years.
While this course doesn’t technically expire, committee members are entitled to 8 hours of paid training each year.
We budget for a full day of training. In some cases, we may finish a bit earlier. Regardless of the duration, all topics are fully explored and covered.
According to WorkSafe BC specifications: “All joint committee members selected on or after April 3, 2017, must receive eight hours of training and instruction.”
