Training is a structured conversation, and reciprocity is required

Teaching and facilitation

Training is a structured conversation in that RECIPROCITY is an absolute requirement. There needs to be a constant back-and-forth connection between instructor and participants. So often training ends up being an event where the ‘instructor’ has sound come out the front of their head for ____ minutes / hours and students just sit there.

At the end of the ‘training’ the instructor asks “are there any questions?” Nope? Good. Now here’s your ticket. You’re all ‘trained up’. Instructing, facilitating, teaching (or whatever you want to call it) is HARD. It’s more than being a subject matter expert. It’s more than being good with people.
