We’re eyeballs deep in getting our new fall protection course ready-to-go. The new version (V4.1) will be approved in Ontario, and will apply across Canada (except NL, and ESC in AB). Long story long… I’ve spent 62.58 hours (so far) on the revised course. And, now we run the rapid improvement process which looks like this.
- Teach it.
- Fix what doesn’t work.
- Repeat steps 1-2 until awesomeness is attained.
- Build slide deck.
- Build instructor materials.
- Repeat steps 1-2 again to work out any kinks in the slide deck and instructor materials.
- Submit for approval to Ontario government and the BC Construction Safety Alliance NCSO program.
I taught for the first time yesterday. It sucked. It suced so hard that I questioned my value as a person, my abilities as an instructor, my validity as a small business owner and my instructional design abilities. It was garbage. So, today is renovation day and I can’t wait to run with the updates made.
And I can’t wait for the emotional roller coaster either 🤣 😭 To my fellow instructors, instructional designers and small business owners. I feel your pain, and want you to know that you’re not alone. “Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.”
~ Winston Churchill (but it’s not actually know who the author of this quote is).
