It takes us (Haland Learning) a LONG time to create simple learning activities. In this case, we have to teach about at height-related responsibilities. This has to work across CANADA. Here's the steps we've gone through:
- Downloaded the OHS Act and other references for 6 of the 13 Provinces & Territories.
- Went through every single word of every responsibility.
- Removed all responsibilities not directly related to working at height or using PPE.
- Searched for patterns among the Province & Territories.
- Summarized.
- Clarified.
- Reworded for simplicity and accessibility.
- Distilled 45 pages of regulatory wording into a single page.
This might make lawyers call me out as a bad guy, but I promise... this is for the benefit of our workers. In a course where we're expected to get 50+ learning objectives across in a single day session, we (as course designers) have to be ruthless in how/when to focus.
The current state of this activity is a general "fill-in-the-blank" activity. Now, I'll leave this page for a few days and let it roll around in the back of my head. When I re-approach this page, I'll approach this clean content with a new perspective. I'll use an approach to create a meaningful and useful set of learning activities.
