Awesome or adequate: what's the goal?

Running a training business

A colleague recently asked if I'd like to hire someone to work for me. In response to his suggestion of this person, I asked "are they awesome?" He looked at my like I was crazy and said "well, I wouldn't say that. but they're not bad."

I said "I don't work with NOT BAD. I only want to work with people that are awesome. We're building a team, and the questions we ask when considering people to bring onboard HAVE to consist of determining their level of awesomeness. Not adequacy"

The world is full of adequacy, and if we don't consciously challenge the status quo, then we'll get stuck with the status quo.
