Safety Data Sheets
The sheets the course uses when you work through atmospheric hazards. Each one is the supplier's own document, exactly as the supplier published it.
Open a sheet and read section 2 for the hazards, section 8 for exposure limits, and section 9 for vapour density and flammable range. Those are the sections the exercise asks about.
Read this first. These are classroom copies, kept here so you can work the exercise. They are not the sheet for anything in your workplace. The sheet that covers a product you actually work near is the one your employer holds for that product, from that supplier, and it is the only one to plan an entry against.
Six sheets
The course set
Four gases and two liquids, picked because they cover the four ways an atmosphere kills you in a confined space: it displaces oxygen, it burns, it poisons, or it does more than one at once.
- Hydrogen Sulfide Sewer gas. Heavier than air, so it collects in the bottom of a space. Airgas USA, LLC · revised 11 February 2021 · PDF · 255 KB
- Carbon Monoxide No colour, no smell. The reason a petrol engine never runs near an opening. Airgas USA, LLC · revised 5 November 2020 · PDF · 252 KB
- Acetylene Welding gas. Flammable across an unusually wide range in air. Airgas USA, LLC · revised 21 June 2021 · PDF · 160 KB
- Acetone Solvent. Evaporates fast enough to build a flammable atmosphere in a closed space. Fisher Scientific · revised 25 April 2019 · PDF · 70 KB
-
Gasoline
All grades. Vapour is heavier than air and travels to an ignition source.
Hess Corporation · revised 30 August 2012 · PDF · 201 KB
Published before WHMIS 2015, so it is laid out in the older format and some sections are numbered differently from the sheets above.
-
Allyl Chloride
Flammable and toxic at once, which is why it is in the set.
Sigma-Aldrich · revised 25 December 2012 · PDF · 53 KB
Headed Material Safety Data Sheet, the format WHMIS 2015 replaced. Useful for seeing what the old sheets looked like, not for the current section numbering.
Each sheet belongs to the supplier named beside it and is reproduced here unchanged. Suppliers publish these so they travel with the product, and the revision date is on every one so you can see how current it is.
